Frequently Asked Questions
This page contains answers to common questions
handled by our support staff, along with some tips and tricks that we have
found useful and presented here as questions.
- Do you still
include a CD-ROM with your ISV publications?
- Where can I find information about your other products
and publications?
- Do you take donations?
- Who is the ISV
Foundation?
-
Can
my church help the ISV Foundation finish the task of translating the
ISV?
- What is the International Standard Version?
- When is the Old Testament going to be completed?
- What if I have questions about how the ISV is
translated?
- Can I purchase a CD-ROM without buying a book?
No. We included the free CD-ROM because we wanted
people to study the Bible using professional Bible study software at
little or no additional cost. Rick Meyers now distributes the ISV text
with his free e-Sword software, which you can download at
http://www.e-sword.net. He also has
free e-Sword software for your PDA. You can download the ISV New
Testament as one of the free Bible translations that Rick Meyers makes
available from his website.
Now that the free e-Sword software is
available with the ISV modules online, we do not need to include the
CD-ROM. Besides, having the ISV text online means that you can always
get the most current release of the ISV text from the Internet. A CD-ROM
put into the back of our book might be outdated by the time you purchase
it.

No, Davidson Press does not accept
donations. If you like our work, please buy our products and publications.
The ISV Foundation (which translated the ISV New Testament
and is now in the process of translating the ISV Old Testament) DOES
accept donations, however, and we encourage you to contribute to their
fine work. The ISV Foundation has been around for 30 years or so and
is recognized by the IRS as exempt under Section 501.(c)(3) of the
Internal Revenue Code. Accordingly, your donations are fully
tax-deductible and are welcomed. You can visit their
website at http:/isv.org or if you would like
to mail a check to the ISV Foundation, use this address:

Yes. We recommend that a church adopt an
entire book or chapter. Contact the ISV Foundation at the above address for
more information.
This question is best answered in the ISV
Foundation's own words. Go to their website at
http://isv.org
for the details.
The International Standard Version® New
Testament is the most readable and accurate English translation of the
Bible ever produced. Utilizing a completely different translation
philosophy from other Bible translations, the ISV avoids the extremist
problems of literal vs. less-than-accurate dynamic equivalence. For more
details, click on any of these:
The ISV Foundation has completed the base translation of 27 of the 39
Old Testament books. All of these books may be
previewed on-line on the ISV Foundation's download
page (see http://isv.org for more
information) if you have the Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your system.
The Old Testament is scheduled for
completion in the Summer of 2007, with printed publication set for
that time. Work on translation of the Old Testament is continuing.
We're confident that most of your
questions can be resolved by reviewing the
Musings
section. If you have additional questions or comments, please contact
the ISV Foundation..
The e-Sword CD-ROM is
NOT FOR SALE by Davidson Press. The program is free via online
downloads. You can
get a copy from the e-Sword website. Visit
http://www.e-sword.net for details. If you really want a
copy on CD-ROM, Rick Meyers will send you one if you make a donation to
his Equipping Ministries Foundation, a very fair request, we think.
Also, note that the CD-ROM
comes only in the IBM format at this time. The CD-ROM
is NOT AVAILABLE in a MacIntosh format,
and there are no plans to develop a Mac format at this time. Sorry.
